One of the world’s most popular beer styles, lagers are the easy-drinking life of the party. Their characteristically “crisp” profile is a result of low and slow bottom-fermentation. (Ales, on the other hand, are top-fermented at high temperatures, giving them richer, more pronounced flavors.) Pilsners are a type of lager.

Stella Artois, Heineken, and Budweiser are all widely available macro lagers. Pilsners are a type of lager, and include brands such as Pilsner Urquell.

Craft lagers include all-malt Firestone Lager, made with noble German hops, and Founders Solid Gold, which bills itself as a “premium lager.” Another popular subcategory is Mexican lagers, such as Corona, Tecate, Sol, and Dos Equis.
