VinePair is looking for a talented, experienced (3 – 5 years), passionate Managing Editor to join our growing team. The Managing Editor will oversee the day-to-day operations of our publication, managing the editorial schedule and staff writers while also maintaining and growing our stable of freelancers. You will assign, edit, schedule, and publish all of our stories.

At VinePair, we see drinking as a lens with which to view other important aspects of our lives, be them social, economic, political, or cultural. We like to tell stories that help our readers understand beer, wine, and spirits, but also stories that help our readers understand themselves and the world in which they live through the lens of the glass.

The primary role of the Managing Editor is to guide the long-term editorial direction of VinePair, and oversee the day-to-day execution of that vision. The Managing Editor will play a key role in refining and executing our editorial goals, fueling our continued growth.

We are looking for an editor who is passionate about wine, beer or spirits (hopefully all three!). You should have a working knowledge of drinking culture and other lifestyle areas, but more importantly, you should have a deep passion for drinking as a part of our culture. The ideal candidate will have existing relationships with talented freelance writers, or be someone with the proven ability to find new voices who will align with our brand and expand our readership.

The ideal editor is a talented headline writer, but also someone with exceptional editing skills. At VinePair we are committed to the idea that traffic growth and a strong brand that tells important stories are not conflicting values or outcomes. Your job will involve developing and assigning stories that will resonate with audiences across multiple distribution channels, from social media platforms to our large email audience and beyond. You will be overseeing stories that both help us solidify our editorial brand and expand upon our position as the country’s largest drinks-focused digital media company.

Perhaps most importantly, we’re looking for a team player – someone who will not hesitate to take on additional responsibilities as they present themselves and who will lend a helping hand to others on the team. We’re a small but growing startup and everyone wears more than one hat. Opportunities to grow your role and advance are available and encouraged.

This position is fulltime and is based out of our New York Office. This position will receive equity. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Qualifications:

  • At least 3 to 5 years editing content for a similarly sized publication
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Proficiency with WordPress
  • Proficiency with Google Analytics and basic digital media analytics concepts
  • Ability to stay organized and meet deadlines
  • Must be able to work full-time in our New York City offices
  • Familiarity with basic SEO concepts is a plus
  • Working knowledge of Photoshop and basic HTML is a plus
