Cantine Gini 'Il Novecento' Chianti Riserva DOCG 2013 Review

With Malvasia Nera and Canaiolo involved, no French varieties here, the waxy rose petal and violet notes dominate this wine in a nice way giving the classic cherry notes a back seat role for once. This switcharoo gives the earthy tones more to work with, jiving with the floral notes for a true forest floor vibe and turning bright cherry aromas into more of a cherry liqueur. This is classic under-the-radar Chianti like it was back in the day; easy drinking and a bit rustic. The tannins have softened a little with age but still do the work of maintaining a back bone for the wine. This wine is meant for food, as this blend was back in the day.
