The Story Behind The Roséroni

This week's cocktail draws inspiration from the changing seasons. We're hoping that with its springtime ingredients, it will help carry us through to some warm days ahead. Whoever said you can't influence the weather by toasting it never had a Roséroni!

That's what I'm calling this delightful cocktail made out of our favorite springtime wine, rosé. This cocktail takes that love for sipping rosé on a warm day and combines it with my favorite sipping cocktail, the Negroni. We left the London dry gin and Campari exactly where they belong, but replaced the sweet vermouth with a nice Washington Cabernet Franc rosé. Of course, any medium-bodied rosé will suffice; I simply used this one as it is produced by one of my favorite local vineyards.

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce rosé
  • 1 ounce Campari
  • 1 ounce gin

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients into a mixing glass with 1 cup of ice
  2. Stir until ingredients are sufficiently chilled and mixed
  3. Strain over a fresh king ice cube (any ice will suffice)
  4. Garnish with a lemon wheel
