Wagner Vineyards Meritage 2012 Review

If you're not familiar with the word “Meritage” on a wine label it indicates a wine made in the Bordeaux style without saying, "Bordeaux in style” and angering the Bordelais. A “claret” is in that same vein. This wine is a Meritage and it deserves that title. It is medium to full bodied with nice dark fruit and good tannin structure that forms the framework, while good-medium acidity lifts the wine up while on the palate. Blackberries and cherries sprinkled with cracked black pepper and some fresh earth cover the palate. Grab this bottle and see what New York wine can do.
