San Simeon 'Stormwatch' 2013 Review

This Paso Robles red blend is a storm of savory flavors. It's very ripe, but very balanced. A glass of this wine is like putting on a warm sweater as a storm rolls in across the water. 24 months of aging in French oak barrels has given the wine some very savory characteristics without an overabundance oak flavors. Aromas include blackberries, spice, and a hint of smoke and cedar incense. Flavors include dried fruit and cocoa powder. Drink it on its own or with a meaty dish. While it's a steep $67, those looking for an exceptionally bold, heady, special occasion wine will find it a good purchase.
