Charles Krug Napa Valley Merlot 2015 Review

I wonder what Charles Krug would think of the wine being made at his OG facility in St. Helena, which was purchased by the Mondavi family in 1943. The wine is fine, with good weight to the palate, but the 14.7% alcohol jumps in front and stares you in the face before you can enjoy the blueberry and vanilla notes along with the slightest hint of earth. It's a very Mondavi-style wine in that the heavy oak and high alcohol here is what made them famous in the first place. If this is your style, you will love this wine. It just seems that for a Merlot, it would make sense for it not to have the same strength and high alcohol as a Cab.
