Bowmore 21-Year-Old Sherry Oak Cask Review
This new release to the U.S. market from the longtime Islay stalwart is aged in ex-bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks before being finished in first fill Pedro Ximénez (PX) sherry casks. Much milder in peated notes than its Islay brethren, the nose is floral and almost saison-like, though the palate is rich in toffee, maple syrup, and pipe tobacco. The finish offers almost rum ester-like pineapple/banana/tropical notes, before there is a lingering pink bubblegum sweetness. Sublime.
