The Story Behind The Blackberry Mojito

Memorial day weekend is coming up, and so is the comforting warmth of summer. Here in Seattle, the amazing weather has inspired tropical cocktails made with fresh and seasonal ingredients. These easy, fun cocktails make everyone feel like they’re on vacation just by heading to the local bar.

When I need a little escape but don’t have the time to book a whole exotic trip, I just mix myself up a mojito. In the past, I’ve been hesitant to order mojitos at bars because they’re often inconsistently made and usually too sweet. However, after a trip to Barcelona I rediscovered the mojito and fell in love. Simple and refreshing, the classic mojito has five ingredients: rum, mint, lime, sugar, and club soda. While the classic is always delicious, during the summer I love adding tart berries to take the flavor to a whole new level.

Today, I’m sharing a twist on the classic mojito by adding fresh blackberries to the mix. This recipe is very versatile – you don’t even have to use blackberries! Feel free to add any fruit that you might have lying around at home. This drink is a perfect signature cocktail for a memorial day barbecue because it can be made in bulk ahead of time – just add ice before your guests arrive. For a fun spin on presentation, I sprinkled powdered sugar over the mint leaf garnish.

Transport yourself from your backyard to somewhere indulgent and tropical with this blackberry mojito.
