The Story Behind The Amber Old Fashioned

As one of the most popular cocktails in the world, the Old Fashioned provides an excellent template for riffing. Developed by Meaghan Dorman of Raines Law Room at the William in NYC, the Amber Old Fashioned was inspired by Dorman’s favorite shift drink and features rich aged rum in addition to the classic whiskey.

The split base gives the cocktail a compelling roundness, featuring notes of caramel, toffee, and earthy fruit. And a combination of peach and Angostura bitters add some complexity to the simple build. “As it dilutes, different elements emerge and keep the flavor interesting,” Dorman says.
