Kelby James Russell Wines Dry Rosé 2022 Review

Kelby James Russell is one of the leading winemakers in the Finger Lakes region. His work at Red Newt Cellars along with other key players really ushered in the next era of winemaking in this region. Known for his focused Riesling offerings, he still had more to say and do. So Red Newt head winemaker David Whiting suggested he begin a side project and let his passions loose. This rose is a great example of that outpouring. Kelby loves rosé so it was his first wine at his own label. This wine really shows how expressive Cabernet Franc rosé can be. Deep fruit on the nose with wafts of raspberries. That depth translates to elegance on the palate with some added aromas of watermelon rind (that fruity pith) and the tight concentration of white cherries. The classic peppery notes this grape like to offer comes through in a subtle hint of forest pines in a gentle breeze. All eyes on the Finger Lakes for stunning Cabernet Franc rosé.
