Davis Estates Pinwheel Late Harvest Cabernet Franc 2014 Review

Sipping a sweet wine made from Cab Franc feels very American. As we crawled — battered — out of Prohibition, wines like this were all the rage. And California is where most of these wines were made. So it’s only fitting to see this late harvest Cab Franc coming from Calistoga. It has a dark, ruby hue and all the smells of the variety it was made from. The fruit is concentrated and balanced by the sweetness. The peppery notes do persist, which throws you a bit off. But with some good local cheeses this would be great.
