You know that one friend who says all they’re looking for is an easy drinking red to unwind with at the end of the day? Hey that “friend” could even be you. We get it, all they’re/you’re looking for is a “smooth” red that’s easy on the tannins with a bit of acidity and fruit to create a velvety red that just screams “it’s time to unwind, let’s turn on Netflix and chill.” We think no wine embodies this more than Allegrini Valpolicella.

The Allegrini family has been playing a role in the wines of Valpolicella, a wine region in the northern Italian province of Verona, since the 16th Century. And while the family is most famous for their expensive and critically lauded bottles of Amarone, their craftsmanship and quality trickles down to every bottle they produce, including this approachable and very affordable option.

Made from a blend of Corvina, Rondinella and Oselata, the wine ages for twelve months in oak barrels before it is bottled and released. This isn’t a wine for cellaring, it’s a wine for drinking. In the glass the wine has a decadent aroma of dark red fruit, and when tasted those fruit flavors of dark cherry are very apparent, as is the flavor of almonds and plums. It’s a wine that would go very well with a nice steak, though it’s so quaffable it’d also be perfect on its own while unwinding in front of the TV, with a good book, or even in the tub.
