The Story Behind The Urban Cowboy Lodge’s Hot Toddy

If you’re in the market for a Hot Toddy that goes beyond the original spec of just whiskey, honey, lemon juice, and hot water, Urban Cowboy Lodge’s riff is the Toddy for you. Developed by Harry McNamara, this version of the beloved winter classic elevates seasonal flavors like apple, winter citrus, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

Floral and bittersweet Amaro Montenegro is balanced by sweet bourbon with apple brandy and sherry further rounding out the base. Bitters and lemon juice keep things in check, and a whipped cream garnish is the rich, luscious topper every warm holiday cocktail needs.

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce Amaro Montenegro
  • 1 ounce Old Forester Bourbon
  • ¼ ounce Laird’s Apple Brandy
  • ½ ounce Lustau East India Solera Sherry
  • 1 dash Angostura bitters
  • 2 ounces water
  • ¼ ounce cinnamon syrup
  • ¼ ounce lemon juice
  • Garnish: whipped cream, an orange star, and shaved fresh nutmeg.

Directions

  1. In a pot, add all ingredients excluding cinnamon syrup and lemon juice and heat to near boiling.
  2. In a mug, add cinnamon syrup and lemon juice before pouring heated mixture into the mug.
  3. Top with a small dollop of whipped cream, an orange star, and shaved fresh nutmeg on top.
