The Story Behind The Smokin' Hot Tequila

Last time I was in France I bought back a bottle of yellow Chartreuse VEP. It has wonderfully mellow, herbal-honey notes, plus a touch of fresh mint.

When you’re making cocktails with Chartreuse, it’s important to remember that the finish is strong! I wanted to use just a little in this drink, so I played around with the classic flavors of a Margarita. Coupling the Chartreuse with a young, earthy tequila blanco provides a really nice balance.

I smoked the cocktail using cherry wood and a smoke infusion instrument, and it was a lovely finishing touch! But you can also make this without that effect and it will taste just as delicious.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ ounces tequila blanco
  • 1 ounce yellow Chartreuse VEP
  • ½ ounce lime juice
  • ½ ounce pineapple juice
  • ½ ounce agave syrup

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice, and shake hard to chill and combine.
  2. Fine-strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice.
