The Story Behind The Gin-Strawberry Smash

Gin, citrus, and fresh strawberries and mint come together in this bright cocktail that’s easy to throw together after a day at the beach or before dinner al fresco. A few dashes of aromatic bitters and fresh lemon juice keep things from getting too sweet.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ ounces gin
  • ¾ ounce lemon juice
  • ¾ ounce strawberry and mint syrup (recipe follows)
  • 3 dashes aromatic bitters

Directions

  1. Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker except bitters, and shake to combine.
  2. Strain over crushed ice, and then dash bitters on top.

  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup sliced strawberries
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup mint

Strawberry and Mint Syrup Directions

  1. Combine ingredients in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat.
  2. Simmer until the sugar is dissolved, stirring occasionally.
  3. Let cool, and then strain out solids.
  4. Store syrup, covered, in your refrigerator for up to one week.
