Coors and PBR don’t threaten Tree House Brewing and Trillium’s bottom lines, and vice versa. The same goes for Evan Williams and Eagle Rare. Yet, in the wine world, there continues to be a misunderstanding regarding a fictitious high and low market overlap.
Realistically, these are two distinct markets. There’s supermarket bulk wine, and then there’s fine wine. The luxury side has no business trying to appeal to the casual, entry-level demographic. And mass-market brands attempting to inch into the fine wine space with luxury line extensions are, unfortunately, barking up the wrong tree.
On this episode of the “VinePair Podcast,” Adam, Joanna, and Zach discuss how, despite some consternation about super-cheap bulk wine undercutting the market for fine wine, there’s really no reason to think that those two markets overlap in any meaningful way. Tune in for more.
