Drink Half Cook Half Spaghetti

Unless you’re having company (or a really bad day), chances are you won’t drink a whole bottle of wine in one night. You may not even drink half a bottle. Okay, who are we kidding. You’ll probably drink half a bottle. But, given wine’s propensity toward spoiling, you’ll probably want to do something with that other half ASAP. The good news is, you can get a delicious wine and food pairing all from one bottle of red. Here’s how.

Drink Half Cook Half Spaghetti

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • 1/2 box of spaghetti (or macaroni elbows)
  • A Bottle of red wine (we used a Rioja)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 – 3 tsp Garlic salt
  • 2 tsp Chili flakes

In a pot filled with 7 cups of water, pour in 1 cup (that is, a ¼ of the bottle) of wine. Bring to a boil and add the spaghetti. If the spaghetti is too big to fit in the pot, break it in half. Wait until the spaghetti is al dente (semi cooked). Strain out the liquid, then bring the pasta to a large greased pan. Add another cup of wine, and the remaining ingredients. Stir on simmer. As you do so, you’ll see the pasta is absorbing all that red wine goodness. A few minutes should do the trick. Serve on a plate or in a bowl, and feel free to add more garlic salt or chili flakes — you know your palate best!

It’s essential you enjoy this with the other half of the bottle. Otherwise, the pasta just won’t taste as good. Bon Appétit, chef-sommeliers!
