Chilled Red Wine Is Great In The Summer

Memorial day is upon us, which means we’ve officially reached the season of barbeques, picnics, days at the beach, and, of course, drinking wine outdoors.

The grape color most people turn to when choosing a bottle to drink outside in the summer is white, or maybe rosé, but we’re here to remind you not to overlook red, the most widely drank wine color, which happens to be perfect for outdoor imbibing.

When heading outside to drink in the sun, there are certain reds that can be extremely refreshing and excellent accompaniments to any outdoor activity. Red wines you want to serve outdoors should be lower in alcohol, so look for reds between 12 and 13.5 percent, which will often be lighter in color. Red wines we love to drink outside are Pinot Noir, Corvina, Dolcetto, Gamay, and Barbera, to name a few.

Once you have the wine, there’s just one rule you have to follow: chill it well before serving. We like to put the wine in the fridge for at least an hour before heading to the park, to get it really cold, and then we just throw it in the cooler with everything else. The rest of the day is spent enjoying a refreshing red wine that helps to cool off even the hottest days.
