T. Berkley Mendocino County Chenin Blanc 2016 Review

It’s not often that we see Chenin Blanc in the US nut Loire Valley fruit obsessed T. Berkley shows us the potential this grape has in Mendocino County. Coming in at only 12.4% alcohol, this Chenin is not as aggressive as others, a good thing, and more persistent in depth. The aromas on this wine are somewhat minimal with quiet briny pear and some honeysuckle, but it’s on the palate, with the mouthfeel, that this wine soars. When sipped this Chenin is broad with frothy acidity giving a very nice weight, then taking it away with a wash of salinity. This is a food wine through and through and will pair with any light spring or summer fare, even some lean proteins.
