Lava Cap Winery Reserve Chardonnay 2021 Review
When a family of geologists gets into winemaking you know they have a fine-tuned sense of what soil works. Lava Cap is named for the site the Jones family found in 1981 that is rich in volcanic soil and foothill sunlight. This site comes through in the wine. The nose has prominent fruit that is balanced by a nice waft of minerality. There is a richness to the palate from the judicial oak exposure, but with excellent acidity so the mouthfeel is still refreshing.
