Lagavulin 11 Year Old Sweet Peat Islay Review

The first permanent offering from the brand in nearly a decade, this 11 year old was mostly slept on by the press (including us!) upon its release earlier this year. But mea culpa, this is stellar. Aged entirely in first-fill bourbon barrels with a more mild peat content, it’s extremely fragrant on the nose, slightly smoky with some berry fruitiness; the palate is syrupy with strong notes of those strawberry hard candies from grandma’s house, leading into a delicious bubblegum sweetness on the finish that leaves you wanting more. Very approachable and enjoyable.
