Ironstone Vineyards Rous Vineyard Ancient Vine Zinfandel 2021 Review

Ironstone’s Kautz family has been farming in California's Lodi area since 1926, and the vines used to make this wine were planted in 1909. You can sense the history in this bottle made from the low-yielding old vines in Lodi’s Rous Vineyard. The nose has aromas of pepper, wild raspberries, blackberry jam, and Earl Grey tea. The mouthfeel has soft, fleshy fruit and a touch of vanilla from 10 months aging in French oak barrels. It’s a classically plush Zin, without going overboard.
