The Story Behind The Zesty Zeus

I'm heading to Cognac, France later this year to visit some vineyards and explore the region, so in the meantime I'm spending my time tasting different Cognacs to get myself ready. And of course after tasting a lot of Cognacs neat, I decided I had to use some of them in cocktails. This concoction was inspired by a cocktail I tasted at a local bar on a recent night out. I'm currently in Australia and as it's winter here I wanted something with a little spice to warm myself up. I started with some good zesty rye whiskey and Cognac, then added some coffee and a little maple syrup really balanced it all together. It's delicious.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 ounces rye
  • 1 ounce Cognac
  • 1 ounce cold brew coffee
  • ½ ounce maple syrup

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice
  2. Shake hard to chill and combine ingredients
  3. Fine strain into coupe glass
  4. Garnish with orange twist
  5. Enjoy!
