More than five months after the conclusion of HBO’s Games of Thrones series, Diageo, the world’s largest spirits company, announced it will release its ninth and final whisky in honor of the award-winning show.
Called Six Kingdoms, a reference to the series’ ending, the 15-Year Mortlach Single Malt Scotch Whisky will be available just in time for the holidays.
Matured in sherry-seasoned casks and finished in American oak ex-bourbon casks, the whisky caps off a collection of Games of Thrones-inspired spirits produced as a result of Diageo’s ongoing partnership with HBO.
Last year, Diageo launched the White Walker by Johnnie Walker blend, and in early 2019, it released the Game of Thrones Single Malt Scotch Whisky Collection, a range of eight whiskies. The series have reportedly helped boost Diageo’s net sales to £12.9 billion (approximately $16.6 billion) this year.
Kavita Agarwal, Diageo’s global brand director of malts, told The Drinks Business there has been an “overwhelmingly positive response to the launch of the Game of Thrones Limited Edition Single Malt Scotch Whisky Collection and as Game of Thrones fans continue to explore both the world of whisky and the world of Westeros, we are proud to introduce the final addition to the collection.”
“Mortlach is one of our most sought-after super premium single malts, and seemed fitting as the perfect finale to complete the collection,” Agarwal added.
For those not angry about the series’ conclusion, the limited-edition whisky will be available beginning in December via Amazon and in select retailers.
