This is VinePair’s Booze News Weekly Roundup, where we gather the hottest headlines and product releases every Friday for a snapshot of what’s happening in the beverage alcohol industry. This week, we have updates on Uncle Nearest’s potential buyers, Mark Zuckerberg’s Guinness flop, the latest product releases, and more.
News to know:
- Sale is on the horizon for Uncle Nearest: After a year-plus-long legal saga, Fawn Weaver’s embattled whiskey brand is close to finding a buyer, according to a court document receiver Phillip G. Young Jr. filed last Friday. Young stated there was one potential buyer when he filed a letter of intent to sell to the court in June, but his latest filing says three potential buyers are eyeing Uncle Nearest’s assets. The sale would go through a Chapter 11 filing and the potential buyer would not absorb the company’s existing liabilities.
- Internet trolls Mark Zuckerberg after awkward Guinness gulp: The founder and chief executive officer of Meta found himself at the butt of many a social media joke Wednesday after a video went viral showing his uncomfortable attempt at swallowing a sip of Guinness. The video shows Zuckerberg seated as a guest on the Cheeky Pint podcast as he tries to knock back just one sip of the Irish stout, making squeamish faces while taking multiple seconds to get it down. Viewers likewise gulped in second-hand embarrassment, prompting a wave of memes and roasts to swarm social media platforms.
- Tuscany winemaker endures Italy’s largest wine heist yet: Thieves stole roughly $5 million worth of bottles from Marchesi Antinori’s estate in Tuscany on Saturday, with the total amounting to a whopping 30,000 bottles, the country’s largest wine heist to date. Some of the wines swiped included Antinori’s Guada al Tasso and Solaia expressions, which are among the region’s most prized bottlings. A group of up to 10 men allegedly disabled the property’s security alarms and, according to security footage, loaded the thousands of bottles into two trucks before driving off — all within a span of three hours.
Product releases to watch:

The bourbon, bottled at 100 proof, is now available for a suggested retail price of $249.99
- Aspen Vodka releases mini bottles for holiday hosting: The vodka brand — which landed a spot on VinePair’s list of the best vodkas this year — is packaging its highly acclaimed spirit into a half-sized glass bottle with an aim at serving holiday hosts and hotel bars. The 375-milliliter bottle, which yields roughly eight Martinis, is now available across the country for a suggested retail price of $14.99.
