When we think of flavored whiskeys, our minds often jump to brands like Fireball and Skrewball, but historic Canadian whisky brand Crown Royal has been having some massive success with flavored variants of its base product.

We have yet to see another heritage whiskey brand pull off flavored products to the same avail, and the Crown Royal exception leads us to believe that whiskey connoisseurs aren’t necessarily always jonesing for high-proof, ultra-aged expressions. On this episode of the “VinePair Podcast,” Adam, Joanna, and Zach talk about and taste this summer’s breakout flavored whiskey, Crown Royal Blackberry. Does Diageo just have the magic touch when it comes to flavored whiskeys? Why aren’t other categories following suit? And why should beverage professionals be familiar with a category of spirits that they’d be inclined to look down on. Tune in for more.
