It may seem like old news, but California isn’t the only state producing incredible wines in the U.S. The Finger Lakes AVA has asserted itself as a force in recent years, Michigan is on the rise, and now Virginia is entering the conversation. While the state’s winemaking history dates back to the early 1600s, it’s only recently that Virginia has made a name for itself in the modern viticultural zeitgeist. Today, we’re going to talk about the journey it took to get to where it stands now.
On this episode of the “VinePair Podcast,” Zach speaks with winemaker Nate Walsh of Walsh Family Wine about the past and present of the Virginia wine industry: the distinctive geographic, meteorologic, and topographic elements that shape the state, as well as the tremendous capacity for wine tourism and other kinds of cultural experiences that can be had when visiting the state’s many wine regions. Tune in for more.
