what to stream on thanksgiving

It’s been a long, arduous year. But Thanksgiving is finally here, and this year, celebrating with friends and family seems like its own gift, the ultimate reason to be thankful. What could be better than your dad, who’s never failed to argue with you about your social beliefs, or your mom, who tries really, really hard to just make everyone get along. And don’t forget Grandpa, even though he forgot that he lives in 2016.

On second thought, maybe the week of Thanksgiving should just be treated like every other week: new shows and movies paired with the perfect drink. Here are some recommendations:

Netflix

1. “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life”

Get the latest in beer, wine, and cocktail culture sent straight to your inbox.

“Gilmore Girls” is clearly the main event on many people’s streaming calendars. It’s basically the revival of the year, and VinePair already has a full-on cocktail list ready for you. If that’s not enough, there’s another classy option for you. Drink pairing: Manhattan.

2. “Penguins: Spy in the Huddle” Season 1

You can do everything penguinly possible, but you can never hate this BBC series. “Penguins: Spy in the Huddle” uses 50 spy cameras to film the true life of penguins for a full year. It’s mesmerizing. Drink pairing: White Russians.

Hulu

1. “American Psycho” (Leaving)

Both one and two are leaving Hulu in November, and who knows if or when they will be back to the streaming world? Get one last American Psycho viewing in — just don’t get any ideas. Drink pairing: J&B blended Scotch, just like Patrick Bateman.

2. “W.” (Leaving)

Looking back on it, the presidency of George W. Bush seems like such a simpler, less crazy, just plain nicer time. Relive the rise of Bush with “W” because it’s about time to revisit his legacy. Drink pairing: Shiner Bock straight from Texas.

HBO

1. “Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice”

You probably didn’t go see this movie. You probably didn’t want to because you were discouraged by the bad reviews. Yet the people who review movies don’t always get it right, and it’s about time “Batman V. Superman” gets a second shot. Drink pairing: Champagne and popcorn.

2. “Jurassic World” (Leaving)

Few movies influenced a generation as much as the original “Jurassic Park,” and the latest just takes it up a notch. Is there anyone else who can take down dinosaurs in heels like Claire, or tame velociraptors like Owen? Didn’t think so. Drink pairing: Two margaritas, then chug whatever’s left at the scene where the extra grabs two margs in the midst of a pterodactyl attack.
