4 Sweet Cocktails for When You’ve Run Out of Halloween Candy

It’s just after Halloween. The trick-or-treaters have come and gone, the night is winding down and the candy you thought you bought far too much of has long since left the building. But you’re still full of the spooky spirit and want to indulge in something sweet yet sophisticated.

Thanks to some forward-thinking and a well-timed purchase from The Bar, your liquor cabinet is well-stocked with all the spirits you need to help you create a cocktail that will make you cackle with joy. So pick your poison and gather your ingredients. We’ve come up with four drop-dead delicious cocktails for when the candy has run out but you still want to indulge your sweet tooth.

The Spooky Surfer Blue Hawaiian

This cocktail is a twist on the legendary Blue Hawaiian. This recipe maintains the sweetness of the original but gives it a more seasonal appearance by replacing the blue curaçao with triple sec and incorporating a bit of orange food coloring.  The result is a drink that tastes like a Blue Hawaiian but has an orangey, autumnal palette. While a Spooky Surfer can elevate any situation, this drink is best enjoyed as a late-night sip after your successful Halloween bash when all your friends and fiends have left.

  • 0.75 oz. Ketel One Vodka
  • 0.75 oz. Zacapa No. 23 Rum

  • 0.75 oz. Crème de Coconut
  • 0.75 oz. Lemon Juice
  • 6 Drops Red and 6 Drops Yellow Food Coloring
  • Umbrella Garnish

Instructions

Midnight in the Appletini Orchard

Typically known for its vibrant hue, the Appletini took off in popularity when it first came on the scene. This twist on the now-modern classic keeps the sweet and sour of the original but adds an ominous element with the addition of blue curaçao, which gives it a darker color. The inclusion of Ketel One’s aromas of citrus and honey, and long, strong finish add a luxe element to the cocktail. Mix these up for an evening of sitting around a bonfire while telling your favorite ghost stories.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz. Ketel One Vodka
  • 1 oz. Apple Schnapps
  • 0.25 oz. Apple Juice or Cider
  • 0.25 oz. Blue Curaçao
  • 0.25 oz. Lemon Juice
  • 0.25 oz. Simple Syrup

Instructions

Chill a martini glass with ice or in the freezer. Add all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake. Remove ice from martini glass or remove glass from freezer. Strain ingredients into the chilled martini glass. Serves 1.

Freaky Tiki Mai Tai

While the origins of the Mai Tai may be disputed, there’s no arguing that it is one of the most famous and tastiest tiki drinks around. This spin on the typically rum-forward drink swaps out that main ingredient for mezcal. Casamigos Mezcal is balanced and elegant with fresh herbal mint aromas, dried oregano and thyme. The result is a smoky yet sweet cocktail that will absolutely slay you. This cocktail is ideal for those who need to calm their nerves after a particularly nerve-wracking visit to a haunted house.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz. Casamigos Mezcal
  • 0.75 oz. Orange Curaçao
  • 0.75 oz. Lime Juice
  • 0.5 oz. Orgeat Syrup
  • 0.25 oz. Passion Fruit Puree
  • 2 Dashes of Spicy Bitters
  • Lime Wheel Garnish

Instructions

Add all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake lightly and pour into a double rocks glass with ice. Slice a lime wheel and place on side of glass to garnish. Serves 1.

Clarice’s Curative Painkiller

Based on the Painkiller, which is already based on the Piña Colada, this twist on a twist removes the rum and adds blanco tequila and a bit of cherry liqueur. Don Julio Blanco Tequila’s crisp agave flavor and dry, clean finish make it an essential component of this recipe, perfectly balancing the sweeter notes. The result is something like a tropical Tequila Sunrise. You can enjoy this drink while watching your favorite horror movie.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz. Don Julio Blanco Tequila
  • 3 oz. Pineapple Juice
  • 0.75 oz. Orange Juice
  • 0.75 oz. Cream of Coconut
  • 0.25 oz. Cherry Liqueur
  • Cherry Garnish

Instructions

Add all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously but briefly to combine and strain into a hurricane glass over crushed ice and serve with a straw. Add cherry to top of drink to garnish. Serves 1.
