Whatever your relationship status or personal opinion, there’s no disputing that Valentine’s Day is big in the drinks world. It’s one of the busiest restaurant days of the year, and there’s plenty of emphasis on impressing that “special someone” with a choice drink or two.
Yet strangely, there’s no “official” drink of V-Day. New Year’s Eve has Champagne; St. Patrick’s Day and Cinco de Mayo have their respective inappropriately co-opted national beers, and so on. Maybe it’s because it’s hard to pair drinks with chocolate, but for such a big drinking day, there’s almost no consensus about what you should be drinking on Feb. 14.
That’s the topic Adam and Zach discuss on this week’s VinePair Podcast: Why is it that there’s no agreed-on drink for Valentine’s Day? And what might some contenders be if we as a culture were ever to unite behind a single lovestruck beverage?
