What You Should Be Drinking This Weekend: December 23-25

The big holiday weekend that we’ve all been waiting for is finally here. To top it all off, Christmas Day and the commencement of Hanukkah fall on the same day. No matter what you’re celebrating, this weekend is going to be huge. Friends, family, and loved ones are certain to be gathered around, with endless eating, drinking, and just downright being merry.

Usually we take this Friday column to recommend a specific drink you should be enjoying. But this weekend, we’re doing things a little differently.

This special holiday weekend, we recommend drinking whatever is placed in front of you. We truly believe that the holidays are meant to be spent enjoying the company of your loved ones, sharing endless laughs and bountiful gifts and, of course, boozy beverages. This just isn’t the time to turn up your nose at your family and friends and bust out your hard-earned wine and beer opinions and preferences. Whatever your family puts on the table, be it a God-awful double magnum of cheap wine or the crappiest bourbon on the market, we believe you should just drink it.

While we certainly appreciate quality over quantity on a normal day, during this special weekend, we recommend shifting your perspective slightly, letting the drinks you are offered represent the love of the person serving you. So when your grandmother offers you a glass of that wretched, mass-produced red or a serving of her favorite White Zin, accept it happily, and drink it merrily. The company, not what’s in the glass, is what will really make your holiday weekend as special as it can possibly be.

To all of our readers, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy Hanukkah from our VinePair family to yours.

Cheers!
