Viewed from afar, there’s an assumption that the American South is homogenous when it comes to food and drink culture. Many visitors expect Mint Juleps, biscuits, fried chicken, and brisket wherever they go, heedless of the specialties of their actual destinations. Adding insult to injury, many wineries and importers seem to ignore the region, making outdated and sweeping generalizations about a rapidly changing and dynamic wine scene.

That and more are the topics of conversation on this week’s VinePair podcast, as Adam and Zach are live in Charleston, S.C., where beverage professional Kellie Holmes joins them to talk about how the Holy City has become one of America’s great cocktail destinations, and how Grand Marnier has a special spot in the city’s heart.
