The SodaStream is an amazing machine, with one push of a button still water becomes classy sparkling water. But simply carbonating water can get boring after a while. Sure you might be voiding the manufacturer’s warranty by carbonating a cocktail instead, but why should that stop you? If you’re a fan of sparkling water, just imagine how delicious a sparkling bourbon lemonade will taste.

But not all cocktails can be carbonated, make one with a little too much sugar and the carbonation might have trouble getting absorbed, which means you could end up with pieces of your SodaStream all over your kitchen. But have no fear, because we’ve done the testing for you. After many tried and failed experiments, here are 4 sparkling cocktails that work perfectly in your SodaStream.

The Bourbon Fizzy Lemonade

Bourbon Lemonade - The sparkling Back FortyThere’s a cocktail at a restaurant in New York we love called the Back Forty. The cocktail is insanely refreshing and so simple to make it’s almost ridiculous. In the original, you combine fresh squeezed lemon juice, bourbon and maple syrup together to create a sweet and tart concoction that we felt would be even better with a bit of bubbles. To make our version we removed the maple syrup, fearing it would be too viscous for the carbonation and subbed in liquid stevia instead. Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup water
  • Juice of 4 lemons
  • 8 Drops liquid stevia
  • 2 Shots whiskey

Combine all ingredients in your SodaStream bottle and give it a little swirl to meld them all together. Attach the bottle to your SodaStream and press the lever until you hear the tradmark buzz. Then, slowly release the gas, if you go too quickly, you’ll have bourbon lemonade all over your counter instead of in your glass. Then simply pour your fizzy cocktail into a glass full of ice and garnish with a lemon wedge.
