Wolffer Estates Grapes Of Roth Merlot 2015 Review
Roman Roth has been making wine on the South Fork near the Hamptons since 1988. Along the way a few other wineries have popped up over the years, but none as prolific and determined as Wolffer Estates, who make some of the most popular local wine in all of NYC. Merlot is Roman’s first love and this wine, sourced from a colleagues vineyard, is one of his crowning achievements. It is powerful in its elegance with firm, well integrated tannins and a lively acidity showing excellent minerality while holding up the concentrated aromas of cassis, sandalwood and leather strap (fresh leather), amplifying the perception of earth tones and floral notes(violets). This wine is elegant, powerful, alive and extremely balanced and at $38 it is a better deal than many new world Merlots at that price.
