Tablas Creek Vineyard Mourvèdre 2020
Review
Jason Hass and his team at Tablas Creek have been doing the work to shed light on grapes once celebrated by the Rhône Rangers (a group of winemakers in the '80s working with Rhône varieties). But Tablas goes beyond just making great wine — they are educators, running a continuous stream of wine education on Instagram and from their vineyards helping American wine lovers understand more about what they love while encouraging the exploration of varieties like the French grape Mourvèdre (Monastrell in Spain). This grape likes warm weather and a cool breeze, which Paso Robles has in spades. And Tablas Creek coaxes the best this variety has to offer. Raspberries and cherries with a dollop of the subtle awesomeness of chocolate ganache. The palate is rich, with a focused core of fruit only disturbed by excellent natural acidity betraying a slight, dry vibe. The comfortable push/pull of depth and brightness is what makes this wine a joy to drink.
