Scar of the Sea Galleano Ranch Alicante Bouschet 2022 Review

Mikey and Gina Giugni began making wine in San Luis Obispo in 2012 and to this day source grapes from vineyards that farm for the future. Their lineup of wine spans from classic expressions of Pinot Noir and Syrah to more exploratory varieties like this Alicante Bouschet. This grape is one of the only varieties that has both red skins and flesh, giving the liquid a deep, inky color. But the wine itself isn't overbearing, in fact it's surprisingly light at only 11.5 percent alcohol. It has notes of savory, roasted fruit on the nose and an intensely juicy palate. The wine has a great structure with tannins that make it the perfect accompaniment to a backyard cookout.
