New Riff Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey Bottled in Bond (Spring 2021)
Review
New Riff uses an interesting 95-percent rye and 5-percent malted rye for the mashbill of this release (and all of its ryes). The distillery also employs the sour mash (rather than sweet mash) technique, and bottles each expression without chill filtration. Those factors combine to provide a rye with bold character and pronounced minty, peppery, baking spice, and caramel notes. Proofed to 50 percent ABV, it arrives at the perfect strength for cocktail creation but it's more than capable of standing alone.
