Montonale "Montunal" Lugana DOC 2017 Review
Resting just off the southern bank of Lake Garda and straddling Lombardia and the Veneto is this little DOC doing amazing things under the wine-world radar. Lugana has one of the best expressions of the ubiquitous Trebbiano grape (called Turbiana in this region), taking it to new levels with long lees aging in stainless steel to maintain and bring out what this once thought of as a neutral grape can do. Winemaker Roberto Girelli comes correct with a mineral-driven wine focusing on floral and quiet citrus notes with a hint of white peach and green apple. It’s $20 so go grab it now and broaden that palate.
