Melini "La Selvanella" Riserva Chianti Classico DOCG 2013 Review

The first vintage of this single vineyard wine was in the same year as the summer of love. I’m not sure what was going on in Chianti then but there is a lot of love in this wine. Speaking of love, the small western zone of Poggibonsi in Classico could use more of it from us so start here. This wine is affordable and delicious, a great intro to this area. It has a great balance of the earthy, floral tangy, sour cherry that defines Sangiovese with some added awesome of raspberry and a savory mushroom note, all placed well between and around solid tannin and great acidity. This is a wine you would be proud to pop with friends and share over a meal. It's big and juicy, pairing well with lively conversation.
