La Maison & Velier Flag Series 24 Year Old Guyana Rum 1998 Review

The "Flag Series" from La Maison & Velier showcases expressions from regions where prolonged aging periods are an option. Thanks to this endeavor, we get remarkable offerings like this 24-year-old Guyana rum. After aging in ex-bourbon barrels for two years in its home country, the rum was transferred to Europe where it was placed into Port casks for the remainder of its maturation. The final product is a dense and concentrated liquid — one that definitely benefits from sitting in a Glencairn for a few minutes before being sipped. But as they say, good things come to those who wait. The nose packs resounding complexity with accents of pineapple, red berry compote, and oaky vanilla undertones. The palate leads with notes of cacao, citrus zest, and salted caramel, proving that an ultra-aged rum can still be energetic and full of life.
