Dread River Sherry Finished Rye Whiskey Review

Though most tend to associate a 95 percent rye and 5 percent malted barley mash bill with MGP and sourced whiskey, this 3-year-old rye from Dread River was distilled in Birmingham, Ala. The nose opens up with surprising notes of Granny Smith apple and subtle smoke, bolstered by earthy, umami undertones. Upon taking a sip, the spirit unveils its more true-to-rye character with pronounced flavors of caraway and fennel with a subtle spiciness on the finish.
