Château du Cayrou La Tour Cahors 2015 Review
Malbec once went by a different name, Côt, in and around the town of Cahors on the river Lot in southwest France. It’s still there, but when the grape, now known as Malbec, found its spiritual home in Mendoza Argentina, the wines of Cahors took a back seat. Today there is a big push in the grape’s hometown to get more of it into our market, and this bottle proves that is needed. It has seen some age and is drinking nicely. It’s punchy with ripe fruit that is calm and deep. The palate is smooth and juicy yet holds on to an earthy tinge. A cheese plate with this would be amazing. Maybe some lean meats as well.
