Brancaia Tre

Super Tuscans are a hot commodity. Made by winemakers who didn’t want to follow the rules, these wine blends made outside the law of the Chianti DOC have grown cult followings, and that means, for the most part, they’ve become incredibly expensive.

But every now and then, an affordable Super Tuscan comes along that is incredibly exciting and delicious, allowing you to enjoy this style of the wine on any night of the week, not just for special occasions. Brancaia Tre Rosso Toscana 2013 is one of those wines.

While most quality Super Tuscans start in the thirty dollar price range, Brancaia Tre can be found in the teens. It’s an affordable Super Tuscan not meant to be aged, but rather, drunk now, and it’s a great introduction to this crazy wine category.

This Super Tuscan is made with a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. In the glass it is medium ruby colored, with aromas of cherries and coffee. On the palate, the wine is silky soft, with very light tannins and a medium amount of acidity. It’s a wine that just might cause you to get hooked on Super Tuscans.
