The Story Behind The Salted Caramel Hot Toddy

When the temperature drops, sometimes the best fix is a warm and comforting drink in your favorite mug. With flavors of caramel, clove, and orange, this Hot Toddy riff hits the spot after a day on the slopes or sledding in the park with the sweetness of in-season winter oranges, the creamy texture of Crown Royal Salted Caramel, and the warmth of clove.

Ingredients

  • 3 ¾ cups water
  • 9 ounces Crown Royal Salted Caramel Whiskey
  • 2 oranges
  • 15-20 cloves
  • 12 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 6 cinnamon stick garnishes
  • 6 orange peel garnishes

Directions

  1. Using a sharp knife and a cutting board, peel 2 oranges leaving as much pith behind as possible. Stick the cloves in the orange peel. Repeat 6 times for each serving. Set aside.
  2. Slice the peeled oranges in half and juice until you have 9 ounces of fresh orange juice. Set aside.
  3. Boil the water in a pot and, once boiling, turn off the heat and add brown sugar to the hot water, stirring until dissolved.
  4. Stir in orange juice and whiskey.
  5. Pour mixture into 6 ceramic mugs. Stir each with the cinnamon sticks and leave in as garnish along with the orange peels with cloves.
