The Story Behind The Don Julio Frozen Strawberry Paloma

The Paloma, a classic Mexican cocktail, features a tequila base and is usually made with grapefruit soda, lime juice, and salt. Many consider it to be the unofficial national drink of Mexico. It’s most commonly made with carbonated, citrus-flavored club soda, but creative riffs using a variety of fruits and spices have grown in popularity in recent years. This frozen version uses strawberries but keeps the zing from the grapefruit and lime, and the salt helps the bright flavors pop.

Ingredients

  • 9 ounces Don Julio Blanco Tequila
  • 1 cup ice
  • 3 cups frozen strawberries
  • 1 ¼ cups grapefruit juice
  • 2 ½ ounces lime juice
  • 4 ounces agave
  • Pinch of salt
  • Garnish: fresh strawberry

Directions

  1. Combine ingredients in a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth and pour into Collins glasses.
  3. Using a knife and cutting board, slice a vertical notch halfway through a strawberry and slide it onto the rim of the glass as garnish.
