At the very least, 2020 warranted one final list of 10 great beers.
On Dec. 22nd, Untappd released its list of the top 10 beers in 2020. The list was determined by “global check-ins,” with each beer boasting at least 70,000 check-ins over the last 12 months.
Sierra Nevada’s Hazy Little Thing clinched tenth place with 71,291 fans checking in. Untappd emphasized that the beer has become one of Sierra Nevada’s top sellers, and even knocked its flagship Pale Ale off the list. We call it the most important IPA right now.
Further along, “Corona Extra” jumped from eighth place in 2019 to third place on this year’s list. The surge in popularity could explain why Corona recently topped a list of 2020’s most valuable beer brands.
Second place was snagged by BrewDog’s Punk IPA. BrewDog was the only brewery with two beers on the 2020 list, and Untappd noted the beer had been trending on the site for a while. The “light and golden classic” was highlighted for its “bursts of caramel and tropical fruit” that precede a “spiky bitter finish.”
Finally, the Guinness Draught by Guinness secured first place for the third year in a row. The stout stole the election with 164,936 check-ins in 2020, and now boasts over 2 million total check-ins across the site.
