On Wednesday, the Brewers Association (BA) released its annual list of the top 50 brewing companies of 2019. Based on total sales volume, the 2019 report was divided into two lists: the Top 50 Craft Brewing Companies and the Top 50 Overall Brewing Companies.

The only newcomer to this year’s list is Two Roads Brewing Company, from Stratford, CT, which came in at number 47. The unlucky brewery that didn’t quite make the cut this time around: Salt Lake City’s Uinta Brewing, which placed 42 on 2018’s list. San Diego’s Modern Times Beer, the only newcomer on last year’s list, rose one spot to 44.

Meanwhile, Shipyard Brewing Company, of Portland, ME, saw the steepest drop on the list, falling from 29 in 2018 to 42 in 2019. Moving in the other direction were Three Floyds Brewing Co., of Munster, IN, and Seattle’s Georgetown Brewery — each rising 8 places to 31 and 33, respectively.

Artisanal Brewing Ventures, the parent company of Victory, Southern Tier, and Sixpoint breweries, overtook Oregon’s Deschutes Brewery for the number 10 position — the only change to the top 10 this year.

New Belgium Brewing Co. (number 4) remains on the top 50 craft brewers list, despite its controversial sale to Kirin subsidiary Lion Little World Beverages at the end of last year. According to the BA, New Belgium “met the craft brewer definition for all or part of 2019.”

Dogfish Head also remains its own entity at number 13, despite its merger with Boston Beer (number 2) last May.

Once again, Yuengling is the number 1 craft brewer in the country.

On the “Overall Brewing Companies” list, the top five have also remained unchanged from last year: Anheuser-Busch, Molson Coors (formerly MillerCoors), Constellation, Heineken, and Pabst.
