Sotheby’s will host an online auction that includes “the most valuable collection of whisky ever to be offered at auction,” the Drinks Business reports.
The Scotch-heavy collection includes 467 bottles and nine casks, and is valued at £4 million, or about $4.9 million. Brands include Bowmore, Highland Park, and Macallan.
Macallan is the star of the show, comprising more than half of the consignment’s total value: a pre-sale estimate of £2.2 million ($2.7 million). There are 178 Macallan bottles spanning years 1926 to 1991, which also includes “the most comprehensive collection of the Macallan Fine and Rare series ever offered at auction,” DB reports.
Another superlative this auction can claim is that it’s the first dedicated single-owner spirits collection Sotheby’s has ever offered.
The online auction begins September 27, 2019 and will finish with a live auction at London Olympia on October 24, 2019.
