A Florida surfer in Jacksonville Beach caught more than waves on Saturday when a shark bit his elbow, local news site WJXT News4Jax reports. The shark attack knocked Frank O’Rourke, a professional surfer, off his board, leaving behind bloody puncture wounds.
According to a friend and witness, O’Rourke reportedly overlooked medical attention and instead used his shark bites as bait for a few free drinks.
“He immediately went to the bar because he was like, ‘Hey, I got bit by a shark,'” RJ Berger, a friend and witness, told WJXT. “And people were like, ‘I’ll buy you drinks.’ So he hung out at the pier.”
Pier beers alone couldn’t heal him, though. A lifeguard helped O’Rourke get properly patched up, although Berger said his buddy could still use a few stitches.
If you ask us, the incident would make a great addition to Shark Week. (In case you live under a reef, Shark Week is an annual week-long television event on the Discovery Channel that kicked off on Sunday.)
